Features the firefighters of the Edo era (1603 - 1867), who were revered as heroes because fire was the most frightening and damaging disasters that could level a city since everything was made of wood. Firefighters were also know for their elaborate tattoos, often done as divine protection but also inspired by Suikoden, who were also heroes in folklore.

This book is a collection of ukiyo-e prints of the men and women with the style of irezumi (traditional Japanese tattoo) popular at the time, and are still used as reference in irezumi today.
